After attending a great first Global Integration Bootcamp 2017 in the Netherlands, I wanted to use my virtual machine with BizTalk 2016 and Visual Studio 2015 again for developing a BizTalk Solution. It was the same machine I used during the Global Integration Bootcamp. When I created a new project my BizTalk 2016 templates where missing from Visual Studio 2015!?
After some research I found some similar problems with previous versions. Some of the fixes suggested, contained repairing Visual Studio 2015 with the original installer. After that repairing BizTalk 2016, again with the original installer. This did not work in my case, so the journey continued.
Then I found the commands to force Visual Studio to merge the resource metadata that describes menus, toolbars, and command groups, from all available VSPackages.
After running these commands, still no luck. After some more digging I came across an issue with missing templates related to Azure Functions Tooling. This got me thinking and I came to the conclusion that I have installed the Azure Logic Apps Enterprise Integration Tools. Could this be what is causing the missing templates? Worth a go after a few hours of digging and trying. Uninstalled the Azure Logic Apps Enterprise Integration Tools and the result is stunning!! 😉
